Who is Jakarta Potato?

About Us

Hey! I hope you have met my travel companion, Jyaga! Let me properly introduce myself. I’m Ray and I am the author behind Jakarta Potato. You might also find my reviews and trip reports on FlyerTalk, where I write as ClubEurope.

I love travelling and I’ve long been obsessed with aeroplanes. Looking through the windows of an airport terminal at a Jumbo Jet and anticipating a flight had been one of the most exciting things for me as a kid; quite frankly, that excitement never went away. Over the years, I’ve travelled together with family and friends, but in recent years, mostly alone. But now, having Jyaga accompanying me, everything will be okay!

Finally, I might add that my writing is not sponsored and my travels are self-paid. That way, you can be sure that my reviews wouldn’t be full of fluff (Jyaga would surely disapprove of that!). Thank you for reading!

Why Jakarta Potato?
The name Jakarta Potato is derived from the word 「ジャガイモ」(Jyagaimo) which means potato in the Japanese language (it’s also how Jyaga got his name). The word itself is derived from a combination of two words: Jyaga (referring to Jakarta, the present capital of Indonesia) and Imo (referring to edible root vegetables like yams and sweet potatoes). Potatoes were introduced to Japan by way of Jakarta. Seems like an interesting history over a common word, don’t you think?
